Main objective
To establish a Microbial Observatory in the Pyrenees for the monitoring of the effect of global change on the sustainability of the soil resource.
Specific objectives
(I) To select a proper site for the Microbial Observatory.
(II) To select the most suitable soil microbial properties and other parameters (plant community structure, slope, meteorological conditions, etc.) for the monitoring of the effects of global change on soil functioning.
(III) To design a monitoring programme.
(IV) To sample the soil and analyse the selected properties.
(V) To assess the suitability of the Microbial Observatory to quantify the effects of global change on soil functioning. Determination of functional biodiversity of the soil microbial communities (physiological and enzymatic indicators).
